Ratha Saptami 2010

Ratha Saptami is a Hindu festival that falls on the Seventh day in the Shukla Paksha of the Hindu month Maagha (January - February) . This year , January 22, 2010 is the Saptami or seventh day during the waxing phase of moon in Magh month. It is symbolically represented in the form of the Sun god Surya , turning his chariot drawn by seven horses in a North -eastern direction. It also marks the birth of Lord Surya and hence celebrated as Surya Jayanthi .

The day is of great importance at Tirupati Balaji Temple where Lord Venkateswara is carried in procession on numerous Vahanas.
