PM to inaugurate new TN Assembly Secretariat complex
The stage is set for the inauguration of the new Assembly Secretariat complex, a dream project of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, at the Omanthoorar Government Estate just off the arterial Anna Salai in the city Saturday.
The new complex, built at a cost of Rs 500 crore, has come up in place of the 100 years old government guest house, which was demolished. The glittering complex is all decked up for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to press the button, as it were, marking a new chapter in the annals of Tamil Nadu politics.
The city already wears a festive look befitting the occasion. Dr Singh, accompanied by Congress President Sonia Gandhi would be flying down to the city to inaugurate the Green building complex in the presence of Governor Surjit Singh Barnala and Mr Karunanidhi Saturday.
The Chief Minister would preside over the much-awaited function, scheduled for 5 PM on Friday. He has virtually acted as the architect of the building designed as per his vision by German company GMP, visiting the site more than 100 times and giving valuable suggestions.
