Syria reach the final of Nehru Cup
Syria beat traditional rivals Lebanon by 1-0 and booked a berth in the Nehru Cup final on Thursday. It was a game which the Lebanese needed to win to stay in contention for a place in the finals and showed their attacking intent from the start.
The result also virtually placed India into the final as they have collected six points from two wins from three matches.
Sri Lanka, who have three points with one match remaining. If Sri Lanka wants to make it to the final, they have to beat Krgyzstan on Friday by a huge margin and pray that India lose to Syria on Saturday by a heavy margin.
Lebanon became the second team to crash out of the Nehru Cup after Kyrgyzstan as they lost to their fellow West Asian nation this evening at the Ambedkar Stadium.
ONGC Nehru Cup 2009 is being organized in Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi from 18th to 30th August 2009. Syria,Lebanon, Krygyzstan, Thailand, Sri Lanka and hosts India is participating in this premier International event.
